GO to Uganda

Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. The country is bordered to the east by Kenya, the north by South Sudan, the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the south-west by Rwanda, and the south by Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region within the Nile basin and includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria in the south. As of 2023, it had a population of 49.6 million (about twice the population of Texas), of which 8.5 million live in the capital city of Kampala.  

Our visit will center around Jinja, Uganda, in the Eastern region of the Jinja District, Busoga sub-region. It is approximately 50 miles east of Kampala at 3,950 feet above sea level. Jinja sits along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, near the source of the White Nile. Global Outreach is the support agency for several missionaries and their ministries in that region. Some highlights of the trip will be visiting the following: 

• Good Shepherd’s Fold – a children’s home just outside of Jinja that has 50+ children in residence and has 300+ children in a day-school setting. They work with special needs children and work in the community to prevent children being orphaned.  

• There’s so much to see! We will spend 1-2 days in this location. 

• Farming God’s Way – This ministry works to help local farmers increase their yields. It isn’t just about fruit, but the program is also about discipleship and learning God’s principles. 

• Shepherd’s Heart International Ministry – This is a pastoral training ministry on the Islands of Lake Victoria.  

• We hope to travel to one of the islands and spend a night there. 

• Jinja Crisis Pregnancy Center/ Compassionate Women’s Initiative – This organization ministers to pregnant women in Jinja. 

• Entrepreneurial Training Center- Two ministries involve teaching business classes, extending micro loans, and helping people to start their own businesses. 

Tentative Schedule 

• March 8-10: Travel to Jinja, Uganda

• March 11-14: Visiting and serving with ministries in Jinja 

• March 15-16: Safari at Murchison Falls Safari Park 

• March 17-18: Travel home to U.S.A.
